Developing Smart Technologies for Productivity Improvement of European Small and Medium Sized Shipyards
Do these challenges sound familiar to you?
  • Your investments in modern facilities are insufficient because of limited financial capacities and reserves
  • Single purpose automation has often a low economic feasibility because of lacking economy of scale in production
  • Your product design is less fit for production because of partly or complete outsourcing the design activities
  • The use of innovative technologies and activities in research and development has a low ability because of limited personnel resources, lacking skills of the personnel and limited access to information and cooperation networks

The SMARTYards-Network has the solution!

Approach

To achieve the objective by :

  • consequent simplification of design and a re-engineering of shipyard processes (design for production)
  • low cost flexible automation and mechanization (use of simple, robust and “self programming” equipment)
  • establish of production networks (sharing facilities and special skills) between small and medium sized companies

Therefor the project will:

  • develop Smart Technologies in 7 pre-selected technology areas on the basis of 25 pre-identified technical ideas
  • develop a methodology to collect, assess, select, adapt and validate optimized and holistic solutions for small and medium sized yards
  • give recommendations and best practice examples for business models
  • test and validate the technical ideas under practical shipyard conditions
